ARGYLL
This 102 x 63 deep edge canvas is my first large painting, it has been completed in mixed media mainly acrylic using palette knives. I used moulding paste for the thistle head's. The picture was inspired by visits to Argyll in Scotland. Where lochs and waterways are a plentiful source of shades of blue, the background depicts my favourite shade which I call Argyll blue. There are certain times of the day when the water rocks and cliffs seem to sparkle in a haze of this colour.
The idea for this painting was conjured by my mind during weekend visits to the area. The steel represent's a masculine image of strength, the anchor is a strong image seen throughout the area and identifies the links that the people have with the sea and Lochs. The more feminine image of the delicate warm colour's of the thistle are in stark contrast to the coldness of the steel in the anchor. Both signify to me great strength to hold strong no matter the storms that come their way.

THISTLE IN THE MIST
This my first painting of a thistle, in which I have created texture. I also tried to achieve an impression of mist when looking at the painting. If you look closely you will see Argyll blue within.
