I would describe myself as a "hobby artist"
4 years ago I was on a weekend trip with a group of friends and we all got talking about the things we always wanted to achieve and had not got around to. We all pledged to achieve one of our goals and get together a year later to discuss our experience. I chose to have completed a painting and bring it to the get together. The painting took me three months to complete. It was inspired by Caroline Shotton a favourite artist of someone close to my heart. The day came to show the painting to the others. We uncovered it with some ceremony and I was surprised that people seemed to like it. Someone new to the group commented that it was the type of painting he would buy.
After what seemed like years I completed a couple of poppy sketches and this led to my next painting. “Poppy at the plot” Last year I found myself in Switzerland for a few days and found Basel Art Room I took an informal lesson in the use of palette knives and texture. Wow I could not believe what I had created, a fabulous painting of my image of a mountain scene completed in red and black "Red Mountain Sky" . Visitors to my home in Scotland often compliment it and voice their surprise when I tell them that I painted it. These experiences have led to a passion for colour and texture which have inspired a number of more recent works. I am finding more and more that I want to paint. When the natural light is good I think of ways to free up time to get the paints out.
My absolute favorite of the moment is my first large painting which I have named “Argyll” I loved the colours so much you might have noticed I have designed my website around it. I hope you like it as much as I do?
